PCS Gives Back

In the aftermath of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Helene, countless people were displaced, losing their homes and all their belongings. Many pets and animals were also caught in the storm’s path, leaving their owners scrambling to find safe shelter for their beloved companions. The need for support was clear, so we decided to pull our resources together at Pet Cremation Services to help those in need in North Carolina.

Through our partnership with veterinarians across the greater Columbus area, we launched a donation drive that quickly exceeded our expectations. Thanks to the generosity of our local veterinary community, what started as a plan to fill one box truck soon grew to two trucks overflowing with essentials like pet food, bedding, generators, and other critical supplies.

On October 13th, two of PCS’s own traveled to Spruce Pine, North Carolina to deliver the items we collected. Upon arrival, we teamed up with the local distribution center to unload the donations. These essential items were then prepared for distribution to residents in need. From there, we delivered the heaters, generators, and other equipment to the Ledger Volunteer Fire Department, where locals could pick them up.

Our next stop was the Yancey Humane Society in Burnsville, NC, where we donated pet food and supplies. While we were there, a beagle that had been taken in by the shelter was reunited with her owner – a pretty cool moment to witness firsthand.

Whether it’s losing a pet, a home, or prized possessions, moments like these remind us of the importance of community. When disasters strike, coming together to offer support—however we can—makes all the difference. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute and for the outpouring of support from the Columbus veterinary community. Together, we’re making sure these animals and their families know they’re not forgotten in these difficult times.
