October is National Pet Wellness Month, an initiative sponsored in part by the American Veterinary Medical Association to raise awareness about the pet aging process and the importance of twice-a-year wellness examinations for dogs and cats.
According to the Pet Wellness initiative, “Because dogs and cats age five to seven times faster than people, an annual visit to the veterinarian is equivalent to people seeing their physician or dentist every five to seven years. People want the best healthcare and their pets. And for dogs and cats, that means regular wellness exams every six months.”
Along with our trusted network of veterinarians, at Pet Cremation Services we understand that your pet is a beloved family member and caring for them is of utmost importance. So in addition to ensuring regular check-ups for your dog and cat, it is important that you know enough to help your pet should an emergency arise.
Understanding some basic first aid tips can ensure you know how to care for your pets in case of an emergency, at least until you can get them to the veterinarian or know whether the trip is warranted in the first place. It’s also important to understand the signs your pet may show if he or she is in pain. While most pet owners can see a limp or detect a painful cry, pain that is chronic or moderate enough to withstand may take more effort to recognize.
While it’s something no pet owner wants to think about, it also is important to prepare for the eventual loss of a pet. Although it is never easy, planning ahead can help you understand the process before grief makes it that much harder. When the time comes, PCS will be with you every step of the way.
We are proud to be the trusted partner of veterinarians throughout the state of Ohio, helping to raise awareness of Pet Wellness Month and providing for their clients’ final goodbye when the time comes.
